This is the second video of the eight-part video series.
I worked with two subject matter experts, a photographer, numerous actors/staff who helped bring the scenarios to life, and a supervisor/project manager.
Indiana University Bloomington Recreational Sports hires over 200 hourly staff each school year in order to meet the demands of a membership base in the tens of thousands. Each new staff member must be able to handle agitated participants in a courteous, and yet still effective, manner. The current training to accomplish this task was a text-heavy, hour-long lecture which featured few examples.
In order to overcome these challenges, we chunked the content into 8 separate videos - thereby better aligning with research regarding ideal instructional video length. We added photographed scenarios which depict hourly staff in situations they may encounter while engaging in policy education or otherwise interacting with participants in order to illustrate concepts. Finally, I added interactive assessments to the videos using PlayPosit. Here is an example question.
Anecdotally, feedback from new hourly staff who participated in De-Escalation role playing at the beginning of the school year immediately after the videos were released suggested that the videos were extremely helpful.
